Jakarta’s visitor arrivals grew year-on-year, with both domestic and international segments surpassing previous year levels, though domestic travellers continue to dominate the market
- As of YTD May 2026, Jakarta welcomed more than 1 million visitor arrivals, reflecting an 8.2% Y-o-Y growth from the same period last year. Corporate demand remains resilient, underpinned by Jakarta’s continued status as a Indonesia’s business capital.
- Domestic visitors continue to drive Jakarta’s tourism market, representing 98% of total. A weaker Rupiah has reinforced this trend, channelling local preferences toward staycations and enhancing affordability for regional travellers, providing a sustained uplift to weekend occupancy across the city.
Jakarta hotel supply remains flat in H1 2026 with branded additions anticipated during the second half of the year
- No new hotel rooms were added to Jakarta’s supply in Q2 2026.
- The second half of 2026 is expected to bring a healthier hotel supply pipeline, with branded hotels entering the market in western Jakarta and the CBD.
Jakarta’s upscale and luxury hotels drive H1 2026 performance gains while investment activity remains muted, with the Waldorf Astoria sale as the sole transaction
- Through June 2026, upscale and luxury segments saw volume-driven RevPAR gains, while midscale RevPAR declined due to falling ADR despite stable occupancy.
- The Waldorf Astoria Jakarta sale marks the only recorded hotel transaction in Jakarta for the first half of 2026, highlighting Middle Eastern capital’s growing interest in Southeast Asian luxury hospitality assets. Hotel transaction activity remains muted in Q2 2026.
Outlook: Jakarta’s tourism outlook strengthens on MICE momentum and government-backed infrastructure investment plan
- Upscale and above hotel segments in Jakarta have demonstrated resilience, underpinned by robust corporate and local demand despite persistent MICE weakness. This trend is expected to continue, with the segment well-positioned to capture further upside as MICE activity gradually recovers.
- Indonesia’s 2025-2029 National Medium Term Development Plan targets ambitious tourism growth through luxury hotel developments, state-of-the-art convention facilities, and 10 special economic zones aimed at unlocking fresh investment opportunities and encouraging business activities.
