Hong Kong’s tourism demand is driven predominantly by Mainland China and regional Asian markets, with limited contribution from long-haul sources

  • As of YTD May 2026, Hong Kong recorded a 14.1% y-o-y increase in visitor arrivals.
  • The top source markets are predominantly Asian, with Mainland China accounting for 76% of total visitation. Taiwan, South Korea and Japan make up the remaining Asian markets in the top five, while the USA is the only long-haul market among the leading source markets.

Hong Kong’s hotel supply remains stable, with no new openings in 2026

  • The Landmark Mandarin Oriental reopened on 1 June following extensive renovations, representing the only notable hotel development in Hong Kong during the first half of 2026.
  • No new hotel openings are anticipated for the remainder of 2026, indicating continued stability in Hong Kong’s hotel supply.

Hong Kong hotels show strong trading performance and surging investment activity in Q2 2026, with transactions tripling year-on-year

  • Hong Kong’s hotel performance strengthened in Q2 2026, with ADR and occupancy rising year-on-year across all categories. The luxury segment led with the strongest RevPAR growth.
  • Hong Kong’s hotel investment activity has surged since late 2025, with transaction volumes tripling year-on-year through June 2026.

Outlook: Hong Kong’s tourism resurgence accelerates, with visitor arrivals projected to grow 8% in 2026, supported by the government’s strategic Five-Year Tourism Development Plan to strengthen the city’s position as a global destination

  • Hong Kong’s tourism sector is maintaining strong momentum, with full-year visitor arrivals projected to reach 53.8 million in 2026, an 8% year-on-year increase driven by continued regional demand.
  • To sustain this growth, the government launched a two-month consultation in mid-June on Hong Kong’s first Five-Year Tourism Development Plan, which aims to position the city as a world-class destination. The finalised roadmap is expected to be implemented in H2 2026.
